How to Waste $5.6 Million in PA – We have our own “Bio Terror Lab” – It doesn’t work, but we still Have It
Here is a story on how to waste tax payer money in Pennsylvania. Allegheny County has a “Bio Terror Lab”, did you know that? If you say no, that’s Ok, because it was finished in 2007 and is still not open. That’s right two years, at this point you might say why?
How about this, it leaks. Thats right, it leaks. This facility in Lawrenceville has failed yet another inspection, since it was completed at a cost of $5.6 million and was done in 2007 its failed more than once or twice. An independent inspector found that the lab had poor door seals and leaks in other areas, and a faulty alarm system that signals power failures. The bottom line here is that the building leaks what could be in the future, deadly toxins, oops.
The lab was designed with testing of such agents has anthrax, plague and botulism in mind. Allegheny County has tried to get the lab certified so it can become part of the Federal Laboratory Response Network. I guess we should all be glad we haven’t had another terrorist attack since 9/11 and the whole anthrax letter deal. I bet that the terrorists knew we still didn’t have out $5 1/2 million lab working just yet. From the reports the whole program as been having problems from the start with delays and poor construction and various breakdowns. I wonder if Governor Rendell was just to busy to get invovled.

I checked out your link, thats from 2008, the last inspection was last week. Can find it in two or three places, try http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09239/993579-53.stm, thats the latest one out there, they wanted in done by Sept for the G-20 meeting or some such, thanks for the input Bernie…………
