Raise Taxes on the Rich? – Things to Consider

I have friends that want to tax the rich more than they are already taxed. With every great idea there are unintended consequences and things to consider. Let’s take a look and see if you agree. Giving more money to the Government is like feeding a junky. They do not do a good job of handling the money we give them now. Why in the world would we give them more money? Many of us know someone who is hooked on drugs or alcohol. Would you give them money? If you won 2 million dollars and had to give half of it away and you could only give it to one of the following, who would you give it to? Your Church, The Salvation Army, The Red Cross or the Government.  Anybody picking the Government? If so, stop reading this right now because the rest of this article will not make any sense to you. According to WikiPedia the top 5% of income earners in America pay 57.1% of taxes. The link takes you to a long Wiki article so look for the heading Tax Distribution near the top of the page. I have heard claims that the top 10% pay 70% of the taxes but I don’t find that on any resource skeptics may trust. Here is the Heritage Foundation link but I believe they are Conservative and not trusted by liberals. Nevertheless it is likely true.
